Code of Conduct
Commonsense Media is another useful website that educates and advocates for parents and educators about technology/apps, movies, games and even books.
It lets you know what are some of the top and worst picks for you and your children.
I feel that it's really important to create a code of conduct for using technology in your classroom. It lets the students know what to expect, how to keep themselves safe when online, and the importance of using technology with others in mind.
My grade threes and fours came up with their own rules/code in about 5 minutes. We used our school's name and quickly discussed the reasons why we need a code, what the words mean. A few students described what might happen if we didn't have a code to follow and almost all had a story about the dangers of the internet.
Feel free to show your students a code that you've made up, or even this code and discuss the ways you hope to use technology in your classroom.
One of the best websites for digital and media literacy is Media Smarts.
These are just some of the topics you will find on their site.
